$40,000 Per Month From Her Little Membership

Check out this "little $9 email template membership" by Liz Wilcox.

It costs only $9/month and members get šŸ‘‡

  • Weekly Newsletter Templates

  • Monthly Live Q+As

  • Email Foundation Trainings

  • Guest Expert Sessions

  • Strategy Call Discounts

Best I can tell, Liz has only been running this membership for a couple of years ā€“ the first archive of her sales page is from Nov 2022 ā€“ and yet it apparently pulled in $500,000 in revenue last year alone šŸ¤Æ

How it all started, via a recent interviewā€¦

She had just signed a huge copywriting contract worth $20,000ā€¦ her biggest one yet. But instead of excitement, all she felt was dread about the massive project she now had to take on.

And as a single mom, she knew the importance of creating a business that would support her lifestyle and allow her to be present for her family.

Thenā€¦.

An idea hit her: by selling her ā€œsawdustā€ā€”those newsletter templates she madeā€”she could solve a recurring problem for her audience in a recurring way. All while minimizing her time investmentā€¦

She got the idea from helping clients one-on-one and seeing the problems they usually have with email marketing.

šŸ“§ Liz already had an email list of 800 peopleā€¦

You know, relatively small, not a lot, but not a little.

So she leveraged thatā€¦

She sent [her subscribers] an email with the subject line, ā€œCan I have $9?ā€ and shared her goal of reaching 100 members in 30 days.

ā€œIā€™m gonna send you a newsletter template every single week. Itā€™s $9. If youā€™ve been on my email list for a while, you know my stuff is awesome. So why not join?ā€

This strategy of public accountability created a sense of urgency and excitement around the launch, and within 28 days, Liz hit her first 100 members!

šŸ“ˆ To get even more people on boardā€¦

She decided to create an affiliate program to incentivize sharing. Offering 50% recurring commissions on every $9 membership was lucrative enough to drive strong promotion.

After only 3 months, she grew to 700 members with the help of these affiliate partnerships.

Black Friday sales also helped add more members.

And nowā€¦

Lizā€™s membership sits at around 4,500 active members.

At $9 per person that = $40,500 per month or $486,000 per year šŸ¤‘

Liz mentions she offers an "annual pass" as well.

Considering the discounts and affiliate payouts, I suspect she might be earning more like $25,000 per month in actual profit.

Which is still incredible šŸ’Ŗ

We previously featured Justin Welsh in this newsletterā€¦

He was selling his social media content templates for $9/month.

So clearly this low-priced membership model can work, and you don't even need a huge audience to get started.

Could you try something like this in your business? šŸ¤”

What "sawdust" could you regularly offer your audience that they'd be happy to pay $9/month for?

Making 6 Figures, Working From Anywhere

Today's email is brought to you by Comprehensive Copywriting Academy.

That's a highly-rated copywriting course by Filthy Rich Writer šŸ¤©

One student told usā€¦

I can honestly say that without the CCA my copywriting business wouldnā€™t exist. Nicki walks you through everything you need to know, from the nuts and bolts of setting up a business from zero to how to write great copy.

Thanks to her guidance, Iā€™m making six figures and can work from anywhere.

$5 Million Per Year Selling Decks of Cards

Check out Pip Decks šŸƒ

They create physical card decks that help people learn a particular topic.

Like this Brand Tactics Card Deck which sells for $182.99.

According to a recent profile, the business is doing $5 million in annual revenue šŸ¤Æ

From that profileā€¦

Digital courses and newsletters are all the rage right now. Thereā€™s a million to buy and thousands on how to create them and Pip Decks is essentially a course.

But itā€™s a physical product so itā€™s instantly differentiated.

šŸ˜ Part of the appealā€¦

ā€“ Itā€™s quicker (to create and read) than a book. Itā€™s easier to reread than a book.

ā€“ It can be a write off. The product is bought by a lot of businesses on behalf of their employees. That lets you price the product higher.

Also offered in that profile: potential business ideas related to Pip Decks šŸ‘‡

ā€“ Coles notes for books, but in card formats. Could include multiple books in each theme pack.

ā€“ Take other peoples digital courses and create decks for them to sell.

ā€“ Decks for life stages.
ā€“ā€“ 100 thoughts for your first 100 days in college.
ā€“ā€“ 100 thoughts for your first 100 days working after college.
ā€“ā€“ First 100 days as a parent.

ā€“ Workout decks. Could even have spaces to track progress.

You could use ChatGPT to help you make such cards, as shown in this YouTube videoā€¦

Another video that might be helpful here, covering print on demandā€¦

šŸ—‚ Upwork Hack: Hire Someone Yourself

From the archive, published February 2023ā€¦

Morgan Overholt has earned more than $600,000 on Upwork over the years šŸ’° mainly offering graphic design services.

(See her Upwork profile here. And we also interviewed her a while back.)

Morgan recently tweetedā€¦

Iā€™ve always said that the key to finding success on the platform, is putting yourself in your clientsā€™ shoesā€¦ This is why, in addition to freelancing on the platform, I also occasionally use the Upwork platform to hire

Iā€™ve done this several times myself, and I highly recommend that you try it if youā€™re actively looking for jobs on Upwork.

Youā€™d post a small job, something you would like to get hired for yourself. For example, if youā€™re a graphic designer, hire someone to design a simple logo or maybe a banner ad.

Once the applications start rolling in, youā€™ll quickly learn what your competitors on Upwork are doing to stand out (or not). Then you can emulate the approach of the best applicants in your own pitches šŸ˜Ž

Back when I coached aspiring freelancers, I used to recommend they do this. Everyone who tried it said it was a game-changer.
