$100,000+ Per Year From Her Free Printables Blog
Kelly Crean is the founder of Pjs and Paint, a printables blogā¦
Free printables perfect for celebrating holidays, entertaining kids at home or in the classroom and so much more!
š¬ In a recent interview, she revealsā¦
In quarters 1, 2, and 3 I make around $5,000-$9,000 a month from ads. Q4, however, is a money-making season and Iām thrilled to say that last Q4 I made an average of $16,000 each month.
That adds up to $100,000+ per year š¤
Kelly graduated with a degree in Fine Art but realized she "did not want to become a teacher or gallery artist."
So she taught herself graphic design and started freelancing in 2013ā¦
[The freelance business] was very successful and I was making 6 figures and working with pretty high-profile clients.
š Butā¦
In 2018, my first son was born. I quickly realized that working from home while having a newborn was very, very difficult.
Kelly tested out a few different business ideas around this time, but her printables blog proved to be the big winnerā¦
Pjs and Paint is by far my most profitable and enjoyable business endeavor. However, it took me quite a long time to settle on the idea.
In addition to my blogs, I had multiple Etsy shops, where I sold everything from handmade jewelry to custom social media icons, and also web design clients.
Amazing that she managed to build up her blog while juggling several other business pursuits and being a new mom šŖ
And worth emphasizing that Kelly tried several different ideas before hitting upon one that really worked.
She addsā¦
Just under a year after I started Pjs and Paint, I was accepted into Mediavine. It was such an amazing accomplishment and motivated me to put even more time and effort into making my blog a business.
I continued my freelance design business for about 2 years and kept working on Pjs and Paint part time.
Finally, in 2021, after my second son was born, I felt confident enough with my Mediavine income that I quit freelancing and poured all my attention into my blog.
š§ Kelly's newsletter is her #1 marketing strategyā¦
On days that I send out email newsletter, my traffic and income easily triple. I currently have about 106,000 active email subscribersā¦
I think something unique that I do that helps grow my business is to include a free printable in every post. It gives people an incentive to read my posts and also sign up for my email list in order to get the free download.
And while Kelly's printables business might sound simple, there's actually a lot to itā¦
Something I wish I had known when I first started out was that building a blog is a lot more work than you might think. The internet, social media, rules, and regulations are always changing and itās something you have to learn to be flexible with and be able to pivot as things change.
That's the nature of online business: things change fast and you have to keep learning and adjusting š ļø
But Kelly's story shows that you can earn a good living online if you're willing to work hard and test out your ideas.

How To Build An Army of Content Partners
š A recent article by Perrin Carrellā¦
Within that, he suggests building a database of "Super Sharers" to help promote your content.
According to Perrin, Super Sharers are š
People who already frequently share content in the places you want to promote content.
Examples are like:
ā People who share stuff in private Facebook groups
ā People who post a lot in subreddits (long-form posts are ideal)
ā People who lead discussions in Slack or Discord groups
ā Long-time niche forum members
These people donāt even have to be all that well-known.
The important part is that they already enjoy producing content for or sharing content with an active community.
He addsā¦
The reason these folks are such great content partners is because they get their dopamine hits from sharing stuff.
It usually doesnāt take much convincing.
š§ How to find these peopleā¦
It usually has to be manual. Youāre going to look at the posts/comments in a community for the past 30-ish days and try to identify people who are most active. Then, DM and strike up a friendly convoā¦
These folks are usually driven by appreciation, so complimenting their content and insights is a good foot in the door. Then, just try to be friends. Try to be friends before you approach them asking for a share.
Obviously, you'd also need to create share-worthy content, the type of content that any Super Sharer would be happy to post about š
All of this would take time, of course, but clearly it would work well if you put in the time and effort.
Perrin goes on to explain how toā¦.
Build a database of business content partners.
Build a database of customer advocates.
Build a database of community owners.
Some great ideas in there.
And I wonder if this kind of thing could be offered as a service to startups š¤
As in, they would pay you to go out and build these relationships and databases on their behalf, thereby making it easier to promote their content.

š 500 Downloads Per Episode = $20K/Year Podcast
From the archive, published December 2023ā¦
Pat Flynn recently interviewed Wojciech Wegrzynski, a Professor of Fire Engineering at a university in Poland šµš±
Wojciech also runs the Fire Science Show podcast š„
He gets about ~500 downloads per episode and apparentlyā¦
Heās making more with his podcast than in his day job, despite having relatively smaller numbers.
The average salary of a Fire Engineer in Poland is 77,120 PLN ($19,000) per year.
So it sounds like Wojciech is earning at least $20,000/year from his podcast š¤
He says in the interviewā¦
I knew what Iām jumping into, you know, I understood that the niche I am in is smallā¦ And I thought we need something else in the communication between the scientists and the benefactor of the science. And the podcast appeared to be a brilliant route to find them.
So I didnāt really care how many people by the number will listen because I knew that thereās a good chance whoever listens, I can really make a big change for the everyday work of that single person in every single episode.
š° How Wojciech monetised the podcastā¦
I didnāt want the hassle of selling episode by episode. So when I reached out to a sponsor, I reached out for a long term partnershipā¦ very, very openlyā¦
Podcasting is a hard job and it takes time and it takes resources. So for something like 80 episodes, I was doing all that on my own without any financial support. And then eventually I found somebody that shares the view of the world that I have, an engineering company from the UK.
Wojciech is at ~130 episodes now.
Those first 80 episodes without a sponsor must have been a tough grind, especially given that he was working the university job and parenting his 4 kids š±
But because he was willing to push through the difficulty of all that, heās emerged with a successful podcast heās passionate about that provides a good income.
And I love that heās done it in such a small and unusual niche.
Do you have good knowledge of a niche topic? š¤
Even if itās a tiny niche, there may be an opportunity there to build a successful podcast.
Or a blog, or a YouTube channel.
Wojciechās advice for anyone new to podcastingā¦
Itās not about the interview. Itās about an honest conversationā¦ listening, asking meaningful questions, following up, really digging into it with a real curiosityā¦ I set them up. For communicating not only with knowledge but also emotion.
