Hey, it's Niall 👋

I saw this tweet today:

Step one of starting a company:

Trade your time for money.

Nearly every single successful entrepreneur I’ve ever met started by doing work and getting paid for it.

But every wantrepreneur on Twitter tries to skip this step.

Nick Huber

Nick’s built multiple 7-figure businesses and is estimated to be worth $25 million.

But he started out mowing lawns in high school.

His tweet? 100% matches my experience.

When I quit my last job in 2010, I was super confident (read: delusional) that I’d be making thousands in passive income within a few months. 😅

Reality check: I barely made anything… until I stopped chasing shortcuts and started offering simple freelance web design.

The takeaway?

Most successful entrepreneurs start by trading their time for money.

That’s where you learn the fundamentals:

  • How to sell

  • How to deliver

  • How to communicate

  • How to build trust and value

It’s not glamorous — but it works.

And it lays the foundation for everything that comes next. That’s what makes passive income possible.

Alright, here’s today’s batch of business ideas 👇

FREELANCE

$103,000 Last Year From Her Simple Service Business

📝 26-year-old Camille Prairie writing on LinkedIn recently…

2024 was my highest earning year as a freelance copywriter, SEO, and first-time business owner ~ projected $103,000.

It took a little over two years since I committed to freelance healthcare writing and marketing as a full-time career.

How she finds clients 👇

At first, I found them on job sites like Upwork.

Then, I found a lot of them through... cold-pitching.

But, as my network continued to grow here on LinkedIn, I started to get most of my clients through referrals.

Camille's a great example of someone running a simple service business, leveraging AI to provide more value to clients, and earning a good living doing it.

All that to say: you don't need some crazy newfangled idea to earn a 6-figure income working online 👍

VIBE CODING

$5K/Month Upwork Arbitrage Opportunity (With AI)

👀 A recent video from Jesse Cunningham…

He doesn't actually show that he earned $5K but his process is sound 💪

First…

Go to ChatGPT and ask it: give me a list of keywords to type into Upwork to find jobs that easily can be done with AI code and tools like Replit.

Get ChatGPT to shortlist the jobs, pick one, then copy/paste the job description into ChatGPT and get it to create a prompt for Replit.

Spend a few minutes building a demo in Replit – easier than it sounds – then send that to the client along with a screencast 😎

That should help you stand out from other proposals.

What you're trying to do here is to get your foot in the door and build relationships with really good people… We can make a lot of money, but you'll make more money if you do a good job and… earn people's trust

MARKETPLACE

$1.75M Funding Hints at Huge Potential Business Opportunity

From the latest Gaps report 👇

Recess is an online marketplace for parents and carers to find after-school activities for their children to take part in.

The company, which raised a $1.75m pre-seed, is first launching in Austin, Texas and looking to branch out from there…

There’s a ton of search traffic up for grabs – especially when they start expanding to more locations.

Whenever I report on a business that’s starting out with one area of focus, I can’t help but think there are other cities and countries people could start building a similar model for before them.

Of course, you’ll have to have the passion for the idea and see potential in the region you’ll target.

PAID RESEARCH STUDIES

$1316 Earned From The Best User Research Website

📝 Zain Azhar posts on Reddit…

He attaches a screenshot showing he earned $1316 from UserTesting.com

This is in my opinion the best website for participating in user research. The sign up process is extremely easy and they ask some basic information about yourself to start receiving surveys…

Each of these surveys range from $4-$90. The $4 and $10 surveys are simple and take 10 minutes to complete and ask you to record your audio only. The $30-$90 surveys require you to set up a time with the company to walk through a product demo and questions. These surveys take 30-90 minutes to complete so the hourly rate is still pretty high.

The only caveat with this is that you will not qualify for all of these surveys… you will qualify for around 1 out of every 6 surveys but since you can apply extremely quickly, you don’t waste much time on surveys you do not qualify for.

THIRD SPACES

They Cashed in on This Trend and Earned $2.8 Million

The Growth Signal reports 👇

Consumer interest in ‘third spaces’ spiked in early 2023—a response to lockdowns and social isolation.

This wasn’t a temporary reaction. Instead, a fundamental shift in how people seek connection.

🧐 What are third spaces?

They aren’t your home (first space) or work (second space) but a (third space) where people gather, socialize, and build community. Classic examples include:

– Parks
– Libraries
– Museums
– Coffee Shops

An increasingly popular kind of third space in Ireland: men's sheds 🇮🇪

Some ideas to cash in on this trend…

  • A directory site of third spaces, categorized by location, vibe, activities, etc.

  • Start a service hosting recurring events in third spaces (eg. coffee shop coworking)

  • Copy what Museum Hacks ($2.8M rev) did in other cities.

  • Newsletter focusing on third spaces in your local area.

  • YouTube channel focusing on third spaces in your local area.
